Definitely my second favorite.

For the record, I found 2046 to be more of a snore than In the Mood for Love. For me, this will always be his greatest film, and so far the greatest 21st century love story told on celluloid.Joaquinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04638493254719975538noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4103727900749656485.post-21901146114662287292008-09-11T09:30:00.000-06:002008-09-11T09:30:00.000-06:00A-ron -When your close personal friends at Criteri...A-ron -
When your close personal friends at Criterion release Chungking Express this fall, you might make an effort to check that one out. I think it's exciting and funny and the visual effects you're talking about seem well used (though also used often, which might bug you). But overall, it's a good accessible "in" to WK-W. And for the record, I thought that In the Mood for Love was kind of a snooze, too. Beautiful, but I far preferred 2046, which maybe you'll like after you've seen more. Also recommended - Happy Together, though again Christopher Doyle goes nuts with the different film stocks and stylized lighting effects and stuff.nervenethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14607255598302643708noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4103727900749656485.post-29617727544143696342008-09-10T15:20:00.000-06:002008-09-10T15:20:00.000-06:00...all that said, i like it more than i did on ini......all that said, i like it more than i did on initial viewings.

jude law - who is excellent in this, as is strathain - his bit at the beginning, about pies and relationships, is totally buddhist and plays all-so-well with me right now...i could watch those couple of scenes over and over again.

and natalie looks fuckin fantastic in that little blue number, yo.Dexhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10994588799540136268noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4103727900749656485.post-5489376481452795602008-09-10T11:21:00.000-06:002008-09-10T11:21:00.000-06:00Yet, the whole movie plays like a foreigner's phon...Yet, the whole movie plays like a foreigner's phony perception of Americana stereotypes.

i think that continues to be my biggest problem with the movie. wong kar-wai has such a finely honed sense of place - somewhat like jim jarmusch. outside of the jude law scenes, it just doesn't FEEL like it's anyplace, you know?Dexhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10994588799540136268noreply@blogger.com
